Geotextile & Geogrids

What are Geotextiles & Geogrids?

Geotextiles and Geogrids help save millions of dollars every year by lowering life cycle costs and enhancing the performance of roadway and civil engineering projects. Geotextiles and Geogrids are easy to work with and install. Call or email us and we will help you pick the right geotextile or geogrid for your application.

Geotextile & Geogrids

Benefits

The use of Geotextiles and Geogrids in Civil Engineering projects improves sub grade/road base performance. They have been found to:

  • Maintain structural base
  • Reinforce soils
  • Improve subsurface drainage & filtration
  • Aid in erosion and sediment control
  • Enhance containment projects
  • Stabilize roadways & railroads

Types of Geotextiles

  • Woven
  • Non Woven
  • High Strength Woven

Functions of Geotextiles

Separation / Stabilization: Geotextiles separate dissimilar materials, preventing the loss or mixing of granular sub grade material into softer sub soils. They help maintain the structural component of flexible and rigid pavement sections.

Erosion Control: Often used under rip rap, geotextiles provide separation and filtration in erosion control applications.

Reinforcement: Geotextiles add strength to steepened slopes and temporary structures. They increase load bearing capacity and spread out compressive loads.

Sub Surface Drainage: Geotextiles aid in subsurface drainage and filtration.

Applications for Geotextiles

  • Separation / Stabilization of rigid and flexible pavements
  • Embankment Reinforcement & Stabilization
  • Vegetated & Wrapped Face Walls
  • Rip Rap Erosion Control
  • French Drain and Under Drains
  • Porous Pavement Detention / Retention Structures
  • Landfills & Waste Containment

Types of Geogrids

Polyester

Polyester, high tenacity multifilament yarns that are woven into a stable network. These high strength polyester yarns are coated with a PVC material.

Extruded polypropylene

Extruded polypropylene grid composed of two and three layers of high strength polypropylene, biaxially oriented. The layers are designed to accommodate find-grained, cohesive and non-cohesive fills as well as small sized random fill.

Structural Benefits of Geogrid

  • High Tensile Strength
  • High Junction Strength
  • High Mechanical Interlock
  • High Tensile Modulus
  • High Resistance

Functions of Geogrid

Soil Stabilization: When base material is compacted over geogrids (or geotextiles) the base material is “seated” locking the aggregate together in a fixed position.

Base Reinforcement & Confinement: Geogrids keep the fill material where it belongs and aids interlocking of granular base.

Stress Transfer: Geogrids do this by distributing applied loads over a greater area and thus reducing vertical pressure on the sub-grade.

Applications for Geotextiles

  • Soil Reinforcement
  • Retaining Walls
  • Steepened Slopes & Embankments
  • Sub Grade Stabilization
  • Waste Containment Applications
